They are either grieving relatives dealing with loss, or medical staff struggling to square what they have seen with their professional training.
Kessler has collected stories from both groups of witnesses however, and the sum of the many stories is a heartwarming and life affirming book. These people have nothing to gain, they are not trying to argue or persuade, they have simply born witness to remarkable events.
