If you, like me, are a bit of a ‘bliss bunny’ who tries to lead a good life and show compassion for Mother Earth and all (well some) of her kids then Andrew Harvey wants your soul! The Hope is not a self-help-by-numbers easy read and I did wonder whether Harvey was trying to covertly convert me to a specific religion (he isn’t). Sacred Activism is about healing the world through deeds and a deep relationship with the Divine. While I’m not ready to offer myself up for the cause, my spiritual outlook has been profoundly transformed.
The Hope contains fascinating anecdotes on mystic leaders of our times. Harvey unites the mystic traditions and literature of many faiths in a refreshing, all-embracing way. His writing showcases his fierce intelligence and his fiery passion for his purpose. Occasionally suggestions are put across in a flimsy way and he allows his own pet subjects to inform his creed at the expense of others. But, disregarding these minor points, here’s hoping that you and I can change our world for the better. Sarah Scott
