Mud, Sweat and Cheers

Former Kindred Spirit staffer Nicola Cameron left the UK for a new life in New Zealand with her partner and a baby on the way. She sends a postcard home about the challenges she has faced living near a town nestling amongst the sub-tropical greenery of the mountains and surrounded by 100 beaches, learning to live the dream in the land of the long white cloud. Moving to New Zealand hasn’t been without its trials and tribulations. I came here because of my Kiwi partner who happened to turn up at my front door in the little town of Totnes in Devon once upon a time. How often does love come knocking at the door? But fate really is a curious thing – I was in search of a new adventure in life and that certainly is what I got. Boarding the plane to New Zealand was a gruelling and emotional moment. By that point I was five months pregnant and was about to leave everyone I knew and loved behind. But deep inside, my intuition told me that we were headed towards a land of opportunity. Once the plane landed in Auckland my heart sank further and I was more than ready to fly straight back. The impetuosity of the decision to leave my homeland had caught up with me.
