Practice makes peace
Matthew Rochford left his job selling ergonomic furniture in London in 1999 to set up the Devon School of Tai Chi, in South Devon. Penniless but with the assurance that this was his ‘true calling’ he approached the Prince’s Trust with a carefully thought-out business plan and the rest, as they say, is history. Find out how Tai Chi, the ultimate meditation in action, is moving hundreds of people closer to a happier and more peaceful life of abundance. Matthew lets it all flow. The common thread weaving through all of us who practise Tai Chi is the desire to become more balanced. Generally speaking people are quite stressed, the stresses in today’s world are greater than 10 years ago and people need to take a mental holiday from stress and to feel that somehow they are nurturing themselves. Tai Chi is one of the things that can facilitate that. Very rarely do people come to me to learn Tai Chi as a fighting art. I have found more balance, but things change all the time, you find balance and peace and then something comes along that changes things and you have to work at it again. And that’s the way it goes really, till you have enough wisdom to deal with everything. These days the main challenge is to continually let go of my sense of self to allow a greater sense of self to flourish, that’s why the true masters are masters of themselves, which is a very attractive proposition. The more you do Tai Chi the more pleasurable it becomes, it's very blissful.
