Early Morning Meditation
Having just returned to Findhorn after a six-week concert tour with his band The Waterboys, Mike Scott shares with us an amusing tale of mental relaxation...The Waterboys tour took me to Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Spain and the US. I’ve sung my songs to city slickers and rustic drunkards, whooping Americans, screaming Canucks and mad Mediterranean wildmen in the crazy hot night of Valencia. Along the way I pored over Woody Guthrie’s hand-written songbooks in New York with his daughter Nora, hung out in Seattle with my friend the spiritual author David Spangler, went ballistic when a Hamburg hotel shrank my best stage trousers, and performed with a band of Africans, Scandinavians and a Sioux Indian on Norwegian TV. In cars, on planes and in hotel beds by lamplight I read the ‘original scroll’ version of Jack Kerouac’s On The Road. I roamed the streets of Toronto, Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco searching for wholefoods and Steaz green tea soda. I kept my focus, protected my voice, messed up a hundred times on stage but nobody noticed, and stole a beautiful 24 hours with my wife Janette on a day off in Eindhoven, Holland. It’s been a mighty trip and, no surprise, I’m wiped out.
